POL was invented by Edwin H. Land, founder of the American Polaroid company, in 1938. Nowadays, although there have been many improvements in production techniques and equipment, the basic principles of the manufacturing process and the materials are still the same as at that time.
The application of POL:
The function type of POL:
Normal
Anti Glare treatment (AG: Anti Glare)
HC: Hard Coating
Anti reflective treatment/low reflective treatment (AR/LR)
Anti Static
Anti Smudge
Brightening Film Treatment (APCF)
The dyeing type of POL:
Iodine POL: Nowadays, PVA combined with iodine molecule is the main method of producing POL. PVA dose not have bidirectional absorption performance, through the dyeing process, the different bands of visible light is absorbed by absorbing iodine molecule 15- and 13-. The balance of absorbing iodine molecule 15- and 13- forms a neutral gray of POL. It has the optical characteristics of high transmittance and high polarization, but the ability of high temperature resistance and high humidity resistance is not good.
Dye-based POL: It is mainly to absorb organic dyes with dichroism on PVA, and extend directly, then it will have the polarizing properties. In this way, it will not easy to gain the optical characteristics of high transmittance and high polarization, but the ability of high temperature resistance and high humidity resistance will get better.
